Liraglutide Injection: How You Should Use It

Liraglutide is an injection that contains medication to help people who seem to have diabetes. There are two types of Liraglutide injection, and they are called Ozempic and Saxenda. Both these injections have similar uses but for different situations or conditions.

While both the medications are for kids of 10 and 12 years or older, adults and the elderly with type -2 diabetes, certain conditions need to be met before beginning the therapy.

Who should take Liraglutide?

Generally, the Liraglutide injection, Ozempic, is for grownups and kids aged ten years and above and has type-2 diabetes where the body’s natural insulin cannot control a person’s blood sugar.

Saxenda, on the other hand, is for grownups and kids at the age of 12 years and above. The injection is for those who either have medical weight problems, making them unable to lose their weight, weighing 60 kg or 132 lbs or more, obese and overweight.

How Should A Person Use Liraglutide Injection?

To control the level of blood sugar, you need to use Ozempic with proper exercise and diet. And for Saxenda, you will require to take it with a reduction in the exercises and diet.

Liraglutide injection comes as a liquid substance that is prefilled with doses in pen. You will need to inject it under your skin, either in your upper arm, stomach or thigh. Generally, you take the injection at the same time once a day, either with food or without. It is essential that you carefully and thoroughly examine the prescription and inquire a pharmacist or your doctor if you ever have any doubts or does not understand. You need to follow the exact directions while using the Liraglutide. It is not wise to use any less or more than how your doctor prescribed.

Accordingly, your doctor will eventually begin your dose of Liraglutide injection low and gradually increase if necessary in the coming weeks.

Along with the injections, the needles have to be bought separately. Your pharmacist or doctor will prescribe the needles appropriate for use with the medication.

It would be best to keep in mind that Ozempic does not cure you of diabetes but instead keeps control of it. So, you will need to take it injection regularly even if you are feeling well. It would be best to talk to your doctor before you can stop the use of Liraglutide injections.

In adults using Saxenda Liraglutide injections to lose weight without any positive results of weight loss after following the treatment for 16 weeks, it is best to discontinue the medication as you will not receive any benefit from continuing the treatment. And for children at the age of 12 years or older who does not have any decrease in their weight after maintaining the dose for 12 weeks, it is best to quit the medication. It is also very likely for your doctor to ask you to stop taking the treatment if there is no noticeable weight loss within the first few weeks.
